Please call Jamie today at (205) 329-7815 to make an
appointment to see Margaret Smith, Licensed Clinical Social Worker
and Diplomate in Clinical Social Work.
Margaret Bowron Smith is a Licensed
Clinical Social Worker. She has had over 30 years of experience in
the field of mental health, having practiced in both public and
private settings. Currently she maintains a private practice,
seeing office patients as well as providing consultations and
therapy to patients in the hospital setting. Since 2000, she has
maintained Health Affiliate status with Brookwood Medical Center
where she is a member of the Brookwood Physical Rehabilitation Team.
Mrs. Smith
specializes in working with adults experiencing acute as well as
chronic illnesses. She also assists family members in coping with
the impact of the patient’s illness. A part of this process often
includes helping the family as a unit to identify needs, develop
plans and goals, and utilize appropriate resources. She has a
special interest in working with geriatric patients (older adults
age 65+) and provides geriatric care management services for these
patients and their families.
Currently, Mrs.
Smith is serving as the facilitator of the Lakeshore Fibromyalgia
Support Group. This group is open to persons with fibromyalgia or
other medical issues involving chronic pain. Because Mrs. Smith is
personally affected by fibromyalgia, she is able to provide insights
about the illness from both a personal as well as professional point
of view.
(For information
about attending the Fibromyalgia Support Group, please call
205.967.7171 or e-mail Mrs. Smith at mbsmithLCSW@aol.com).
Mrs. Smith
completed her graduate studies at the University of North Carolina
at Chapel Hill where she obtained a Master of Social Work degree
with a specialization in Mental Health. She also holds a Bachelor of
Arts degree in psychology from Stratford College, and is a graduate
of the Altamont School in Birmingham. Additionally, she is a
Diplomate in Clinical Social Work.
From 2001-2004,
Mrs. Smith served as the president of the Alabama Society for
Clinical Social Work. Prior to that time, she held additional
positions within that organization, including treasurer and
legislative chair. She also served on the national board of the
Clinical Social Work Association.
Mrs. Smith has
been involved in civic groups and is currently a sustaining member
of both the Junior League of Birmingham and the Birmingham Ballet
Guild. A member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, she is married and
has two children who are college students.
